Another sleepless night to end a cruel, cold day
Midwinter rain beats down
Upon the cobble streets of my home
My city's lights shine out, drowning the glow of stars
As I am lost in this labyrinth of conflicting noise
Someday I’ll get out of this town
Go places where I’ll hear
The sweet sound of adventure calling
Beyond the horizon, that's where I want to be
There must be more to this world than what I can see
I’m no regal lord, I’m no paladin proud
I have never been more than I am right now
But I want to go far and wide
Seek out new shores
So upon a ship of the skies
I will sail through this storm
I'll slip away in the dead of the night
Nevermore to revisit this in mind
I don't know what's in store
For I will never be saved, and I’ll leave this all behind

Above the misty clouds

A dirigible sails on

Helmed by a captain steadfast
Her pride and joy, this ship she built

The world played cruel tricks on her mind
Adrift afar, on writhing winds
Invent a way to calm this restless soul
Never to remain in one place
On end for too long
In this vessel they fly
To distant empires unknown
And with a fearless crew
Laugh in the face of the odds
But when the storms arrive
And lightning strikes at the engines

Land and sea await below

Beleaguered legions are leading the way back home
That's no surprise after all that they haven't done
And I've sung so many songs of things I've never seen
Searching for shining gold when it was here all along
Hail to the agony
Soporific elder tree
Praise the insurgency
All the same in every me
I don't know just why the world
Seems to implode around the stars
Counting upward from the last of their days
Looks to me like everything
They've shone for will soon come undone

Vorpal candlelight cannot be denied
Buried in desire's a kind of paradise
To come out of the shadows

From a flame unfulfilled

Everything ends, nothing good comes without pain
Dark clouds ascend, the sky breaks and I make my escape
Serving the realm, that time is long gone away
Infiltrated by enemies bearing gifts of hunger and hate
Savour the calm spell, for our death knell has rung
And the world that we knew has been all but overcome
Time has progressed, this world can no longer bend
To my will, and I know this is the end
Yet still the endless stars shine
Bathing the world with cold light
They witness our decline
The fragile flame of the fay has died
For I have seen the dark horizon
Seen the storm
Enchanted days lie far behind us
Rip out the thorn ere it poisons us all
Bury the dead and move on
Unspoken words on your frozen lips
What would you say
Had my pow’r been enough, had you been saved
Broken bones under stamping feet
In pouring rain
The cries of war fall silent, as meaning fades
At the end of our time, I see the future rewind
Infiltrated by enemies, left bereft of our will to fight

The first 30 seconds of "Revenge by Fire" convinced me to get the whole album! It is a face-melting blend of speed and black metal, reminiscent of Hellripper! KVAEN is a Swedish solo project much like Hellripper but many known guest musicians helped J. Björnfot in his endeavor. Altogether it is really a solid debut album, I loved the melodies and the pace changes in the second half too, ending with a "calm" instrumental one. Well-done!!
